My Nook has been so much fun. The Nook was chosen b/c you could get in store support. I was always driving to Barnes and Noble in the beginning. Six books I had yet to read disappeared. They are missing from actual Nook and my Smartphone. There were books I always wanted to read, such as Proust, Remembrances of Things Past. I figured that if I did not start reading it now I will never finish before I die. Doris Kerns Goodwin's book on the friendship between Pres. Teddy Roosevelt and Pres./Chief Justice Taft is also missing. I calculate that about $150. is missing. The technology is so sweet when it works and maddening when it does not work.

My profession requires me to be rational. I am not irrational. Maybe a truce should be called. This is nutsville. It reminds me of my life as a Witness. Most of the believers left. It seems atheists here are too zealous. You don't act rationally. I clearly see atheists acting in very irrational and dictatoral manners. Go bully someone else. You love to paint Christians as the most extreme people. Look at Chairman Mao and Lenin. It is not paradise. I believe in evolution. You don't seem to know any Christians besides the nuts. We exist. There is no conversation taking place. It also strikes me that this is particularly male behavior.

Is Faith Immoral?
by Coded Logic inwhen people willfully believe something without evidence, or contrary to evidence, are they neglecting thier moral responsibility?
so many people say faith is a virtue but i just can't comprehend why anyone would think that.

Yes, it is nice to hear from a nonZealot. Of course, you write to visiting Witness at least once a day. I admire the focus and discipline. We attack each other so much strangers must run away.

Does everyone here see themselves engaged in a cult recovery network? I don't. My experience with things JW happened more than fifty years ago. I was never an adult Witness. As soon as I could stop without being murdered, I stopped. Most people in Manhattan strike me as atheists or clinging to a cultural/familial tradition. When I ride on the subway, no one is hunched over arguing about a doctrine. I studied at a major seminary for a while. No intensity concerned with atheism.
With the exception of the Witnesses, it was always respect other's beliefs. What is left to discuss? It has all been said before to a nauseating degree.
It is interesting b/c I don't see the theist starting anything. My perception is that things became much more hostile about one year ago. I was clear what I thought of voice hearing gurus recruiting followers. There should be a cease-fire so someone might say something that has not been said ten thousands time already. There are certain believers who never finish a thread. They contribute a sermon where they preach and then disappear. I always defended atheists in the past. I know that I am not an idiot and there are hundreds of thousands like me in this region alone. We are adults with certain civil rights. Does anyone come here for instructions on what you may belief and not belief. It is the tone that has changed.
I respected the ring leader. I've had one religion that I chose as an adult. When someone has been through three zealot religions as an adult, how do we know he won't change his mind again next week. Oprah already has a claim to order what people may think. It is interesting b/c one year ago I would have stated that the evangelicals start it. Maybe their departure changed the balance. I don't like being ordered what to believe. A university was chosen b/c the people are very bright, well-rounded, and it is my home.

It is not the business of anyone here to dictate what another person must believe. All these atheist - oh, I am so smart - threads have made me tend towards evangelical Christianity. I started a micron away from atheism. There must be some infectious in JW land that continues after people leave. If I want to convince peers of anything, I know I must never insist or lecture. Western democracies stress the importance of the individual. There are certain items that not even a super majority must not touch. Freedom of religion, association, speech were expressly added to the const'n not by the framers but from the general assemblies of the states who refuse to ratify the const'n without express rights. Madison thought that the structures of government would be enough to protect rights.
The content here is not great. Some posters may sound better but it is because the general quality is so low. It takes a lot of arrogance to imposeyour beliefs on others. The people demanded these rights. Of course, a more literate and wealthier voter existed. I don't think anyone here would qualify to vote.
Yes, Nikita Kruschev banging his shoe at the UN. He was an atheist. (I don't know. There have been many good biographies published. Maybe he only pretended to be an atheist. I want peace from the evangelicals and the athiests. It is so immature. Thank goodness diplomats have a different mind set. When I started at this forum, the people who said the United States was a Christian nation drove me crazy. Now atheism is just as bad. I've lived for substantial periods of time at two universities. This crap is not what was discussed. Life needs a balance. Zealots of all sorts are dangerous.

Forget God. Where were the police officers? We don't need God for basic law enforcement.

Use of the word "cult" bothers me. It has a perjorative usage. With my very close friends, I use the term. I try to use words that connote a cult, such as isolaationist, high control, over reaching, unique doctrines that no other Christians share, destroyer of family, demands loyalty no matter what, discourages education, knows very little Bible info b/c it is never studied. WT lit is studied. Arrogance in expecting God to destroy the universe, demoter of Jesus to a mere angel, many failed predictions, dangerous doctrines applied to blood, vaccines, and meds. Wikipedia states that four or five religions emerged around the same time period and are what we would call wacky. I can only remember the Mormons and JWs. The scholarly term is New Religious M ovement.
Status religions are ancient which is one reason why Christianity claimed a connection to Judaism. I laugh whenever I think about an angel of the Lord appearing to Joseph Smith in Westchester County, New York.

Where was the dead body of Jesus? Did the disciples disappear it?
by opusdei1972 ini am currently an skeptic, but i have to admit that i can't assure that all the stuff of early christianity was false.. for instance, we know that the genuine letters of paul were written before the destruction of jerusalem.
so, paul affirmed that jesus resurrected, though he was not there when it supposedly happened.
but, if jesus did not resurrect, why didn't the jews expose this falsehood?.

There are several letters regarded as genuine Pauline. The ones that had the most annoying scriptures were never written by Paul. If you read a true letters, such as Romans, Corinthians and compare it to a Timothy, the change in style is obvious. I never noticed the difference as a Witness.
